Bible Study Topics For Adults - Hebrews 11:1-6 Faith

People are always talking about faith. They say that you should "believe" wholeheartedly in something. But what does that mean to you? For most people, "believing" or "faith" is just a feeling that things are going to get better. People look to their feelings for guidance because they don't have anything outside of themselves to anchor to.

The Scripture teaches us the right understanding of faith:

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the men of old gained approval. By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things which are visible…. (Hebrews 11:1-3)

And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him. (Hebrews 11:6)

Faith is not a feeling within yourself; it is trusting the living God, who has spoken to us through His Word. In other words, how do you measure faith? By the direction it's pointed. People often talk about wanting to have a strong faith. To have a strong faith, direct your trust in something strong. There is nothing greater or stronger than God, so direct your trust in Him!

On the other hand, if you trust in yourself or any weak and temporary thing, faith will always be weak and unstable. We who hope in God, do so because of what we believe about His nature. Trust that God is real, faithful, and able to keep His promises. You can have great faith in the great God!
